Applicable Statutes
Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 186, § 15B
Security deposit requirements: deposit may not exceed one month's rent. Must be held in a separate interest-bearing account in a Massachusetts bank. Landlord must provide tenant with written receipt, bank name and account number within 30 days. Deposit plus 5% annual interest (or actual interest earned) must be returned within 30 days after tenancy ends.
